EcoPaintJet: Masking-free and precise coating without overspray
The EcoPaintJet by Dürr - originally developed for the automotive sector - is now proving its added value in other industries as well. Refrigeration technology provider PAN-DUR is successfully using the system for precise coating of glass surfaces, without overspray or the need for masking. TLCA closely follows these technological evolutions as they perfectly demonstrate how smart application systems can reduce time, material and error margins.
A paint applicator without overspray - also outside the automotive sector
PAN-DUR, which specialises in glazing and insulation for commercial refrigerated furniture, recently applied the EcoPaintJet to provide glass surfaces with decorative coatings. Think of the well-known glass doors of wall refrigerators or counters in supermarkets. The decorative strips not only serve aesthetic purposes, but also hide seams and technical connections.
This used to be done via screen printing, which required a separate mould for each variant (colour, size, design). This involved a lot of manual work, storage and cost.
From screen printing to digital precision
With the EcoPaintJet, those limitations are a thing of the past. Thanks to the seamless, overspray-free paint application masking and templates are no longer necessary. Each line or shape is software-programmed and applied with extreme accuracy. This increases production flexibility and significantly reduces paint costs.
Benefits at a glance:
-
No need for masking or moulds
-
Less paint loss thanks to controlled dosage
-
Constant and reproducible quality
-
Saving time in the entire process
Fully integrated process solution
Dürr supplied not only the applicator itself, but the entire process package: from paint supply and colour change to automatic cleaning and control via the EcoAUC controller. PAN-DUR integrated the technology on a self-developed gantry system with rotating, height-adjustable application head. Thanks to smooth cooperation between mechanics, control and application technology, the integration went off without a hitch.
The biggest challenge? Finding the right coating for glass surfaces.
Applicable in other sectors
The technology is not limited to refrigeration or glass:
-
Woodworking
-
Kitchen and furniture construction
-
Windows and doors production
-
Railway sector
Wherever straight lines are applied to flat surfaces, this technology offers an alternative to classic masking. And the great thing is: the complete set-up is ready to be integrated into existing production environments.
